Book Review - Delivered with Love

Delivered with Love

From the Publisher:
When 23-year-old Claire finds a 35-year-old love letter in the glove compartment of her inherited '72 Volkswagen bug, she decides to leave her life in L.A. and visit the town of Capitola, California. She just has to meet the man who sent that letter to her mom . . . whether he wants to be discovered or not! 352 pages, softcover from Abingdon.

My Review...
Claire finds old love letter 35 years after it was written at her mother's Memorial service. Starts Claire on a journey down the California coast to find the sender, this boy who seemed so in love with her mother. Along the way she meets many wonderful people...all of them just happen to be Christians! The Little the old couple who help her out and the young woman who becomes a friend when she needs one, all are always saying, "God will Provide"! When she gets to where she is going she finds a house to rent with a somewhat familiar realtor with a very familiar Mother. Her Neighbor is a handsome police officer.
I LOVE this book! It is 352 pages and I read it within 8 hours. Delivered with Love is full of God's love and forgiveness. Forgiving others is a very large part of this book. Note* There is a VERY tragic part of the story towards the end of the book, where I had to stop reading because I was crying. I really liked how through out the entire book the "The Lord with Provide" was mentioned. God's love is so amazing. Just reading about someone accepting Jesus into their heart was so powerful...I cried. The Author did a amazing job of creating characters with such depth. I have no favorite person in this book...they all are. Once the book is released in April 2011, I will be adding it to my library!

Book Review - The Charlatan's Boy

The back cover of The Charlatan's Boy
"I only know one man who might be able to tell me where I come from, and that man is a liar and a fraud."

As far back as he can remember, the orphan Grady has tramped from village to village in the company of a huckster named Floyd. With his adolescent accomplice, Floyd perpetrates a variety of hoaxes and flimflams on the good citizens of the Corenwald frontier, such as the Ugliest Boy in the World act.

It’s a hard way to make a living, made harder by the memory of fatter times when audiences thronged to see young Grady perform as "The Wild Man of the Feechiefen Swamp." But what can they do? Nobody believes in feechies anymore.

When Floyd stages an elaborate plot to revive Corenwalders’ belief in the mythical swamp-dwellers known as the feechiefolk, he overshoots the mark. Floyd’s Great Feechie Scare becomes widespread panic. Eager audiences become angry mobs, and in the ensuing chaos, the Charlatan’s Boy discovers the truth that has evaded him all his life—and will change his path forever.

What I thought...ok Cons first...
I was really excited about getting this book. I read so many wonderful reviews that talked about how fun and engaging it was. However, I found The Charlatan's Boy was not for me. It took more than a week to get through the first 17 pages, and more than two weeks to complete after that...this is VERY odd for me, I usally can read a book of this size in a day or two. I personally didn't find it was as engaging as many people seemed to say. I do agree with many of the reviews that it is funny and kind of off the wall odd. I'm not sure why I didn't connect with it as much as I had hoped. The fact that the book is about a boy who everyone said was so ugly and didn't have a Mama was just not something that struck my fancy. With all this being said, I know a number of people that I will pass the book on to, including my husband, who I truly believe will enjoy it greatly.
my Pros...
The book is written with a kind of Southern Country twang, which I really enjoyed...it reminded me of my late Grandfather.
The ending of the book is very sweet and made me cry. It was a great ending to the book...even though I was not in love with it, I will still suggest it to those who I think would truly enjoy it

Book Review - Unto the Hills

When I was 18 my mom gave me a daily devotional for Christmas. For the last decade that is what my husband and I have used, reading it over and over all these years. I love the devotional, but a few months ago I found my self searching for something new and fresh for us. Unto the Hills: A daily Devotional by Billy Graham is just what I have been looking for. Each day is filled with Bible passages and encouraging words to help guide believers in their day to day lives. This is a great book, I would love to get it for all the Christians in my life.

A peek inside:
December 19
THE PLEDGE
Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ.
He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts
as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22 NIV
As we trust in Christ, God gives us the Spirit not only as a seal. He is also our pledge, or, as some translations read, "ernest" or "guarantee," according to such passages as 2 Corinthians 1:21 and Ephesians 1:14.
"Now He who established us with you in Christ anointed us in God, who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge" 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 NKJV.
In the apostle Paul's day, businessmen considered a pledge to do three things: it was a down payment that sealed a bargain, it represented an obligation to buy, and it was a sample of what was to come.
Suppose you were to decide to buy a car. The pledge would first be a down payment sealing the transaction. It would also represent your promise to pay the rest of the purchase price. This is what the Holy Spirit promises when we receive the "earnest of our inheritance" Eph. 1:14
As the great missionary statesmen Adoniram Judson once said, "The prospect is as bright as the promises of God."

 A little peek inside

December 24:
Christmas Dreams
"Where is the newborn King of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him." Matthew 2:2 (NLT)
"My sister -in-law, 'Holly', will be visiting from my country. She is having dreams about Jesus. May I bring her to the play?" My wife and I looked at each other as "Alan", on of the Middle Eastern English students, mentioned the upcoming Christmas Eve event. We had invited our entire class to attend the children's Nativity play at a local church. Knowing that Muslims often dream about Jesus when God's Spirit is working in their loves, we replied, "We would lobe that!"
While waiting for our friends to arrive on Christmas Eve, we pursed the program. Instead of the traditional story in Bethlehem, the play was set in the American Old West. Would this be confusing for our friends? When Alan and his family came in, we saw Holly stop abruptly. She then spoke quickly, using sweeping hand motions. She pointed to the altar, where the manger was placed. Alan translated, "This is the exact location of her dream. She walked down this aisle. She saw Jesus standing there, with his arms open for her. She bowed to Him there." Alan pointed to the manger.
We gave Holly a Bible, and she hugged it to her heart. We needn't have worried; juggling Chimpanzees could have been in the play, and Holly wouldn't have noticed. She sat smiling, reading her Bible the entire time - a dream come true!

Fall on your knees, Hear the Angels voices....

Since Monday we have been counting down the days until Christmas Eve service at our Church! It is over favorite Tradition. It has been mine since I was a small child! We sing beautiful songs about our Lord's birth ending in candle light...beautiful!

My most favorite Christmas song is...

O Holy Night Lyrics
Christmas Carol Lyrics

♫♪ O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
O'er the world a star is sweetly gleaming,
Now come the wisemen from out of the Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friends.
He knows our need, our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
With all our hearts we praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim! ♫♪

♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪

Merry Christmas!

Book Review - Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball a Novella

From the back cover of Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball a Novella:

"Every year, the Matchmaking booksellers of the Sage Street bookshop host a enchanting, old-fashioned Christmas Ball for the Romantic matches they've decided to bring together."

Enchanting...is the Perfect word to describe Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball a Novella

Favorite Quote: page 83

Sandy's words- "This is what Jesus said: 'Let the little Children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like little a child will never enter it.' Then the bible says Jesus took the children in His arms and blessed them. That means that people who think like a little child are special to God." The words of sweet Sandy gave me chills and tears. In my family we have our own special and very sweet "Sandy" and I love the way this is approached by Donita...Just beautiful and sweet!

Two Tickets to the Christmas is Ball a Novella is a whimsical book about, a very different pair (Cora and Simon) with very different families, a peculiar street, a few odd shoppes and owners. Donita K. Paul has hit the jackpot with Two Tickets to the Christmas is Ball, she uses fun whimsical names like Wizbotterdad & Booterbaw, with a old fashioned feel, in addition she paints a fantastic picture that makes you feel as if you are a part of this whimsical adventure.

From the moment I saw the cover of Two Tickets to the Christmas is Ball I knew I would love it! From the very first word I was hooked. Without realizing it, I found my self half way through the book in only one short hour, I found my self laughing out loud many times. This is the kind of book you don't want to put down. When I did put it down, I found my self wondering what was going to happen and how events were going to play out!

Two Tickets to the Christmas is Ball beautifully tells a story of God's Divine plan, and how events can play out to show us what has always been right in front of us! I found my self identifying with Cora's Family and Simon's family both at the same time. Sandy will make you smile & the Booterbaw Sisters will make you laugh! Two Tickets to the Christmas is Ball is a fun loving, whimsical, funny adventure that I would recommend to everyone! The book is filled with tons of smart quotes. It is a perfect book for a cold night when the kids are in bed, or by the fire.

10 Things I do...

Recently someone asked 'why and how' I cloth diaper my twins. "How come it seems so easy for you?"

Here are 10 things that I did and that I do to keep from going crazy, and to stay on track!

1. I Did a ton of research and I was Picky:

There is nothing more annoying than spending money on 12 of the new "it" diaper only to find out that the: fit is not good for your baby. The diaper doesn't absorb like it was supposed to. The fabric isn't as soft as you thought it would be. In doing the research on different types of cloth diapers you can explore all the pro and cons for each type and get a idea what is right for your personal situation, it might be time consuming, but it is worth it. There is a particular diaper that everyone seems to LOVE, I decided to get each of the twins one...thank goodness I only got 2. I ended up hating them after the very first use. Tip: Choose a number of different diaper you like, then buy one or two of each brand. This way you can try a bunch of different kind and find out the ones you love and the ones you hate. Without breaking the bank!

 2. Diaper Rash Cream and Cloth Diapers don't mix:

Diaper Rash cream will cause you diapers to leak. It take A LOT of elbow grease to get it out of the diaper. I learned this the hard way. Now if I have to use a rash cream, I either use a 100% cloth diaper safe cream ( like Earth Mama Angel Baby) or a just simply put a fleece doubler in. That way, my babies are getting the relief they need but is isn't hurting the diaper!

3. Never under load or overload the washer:

I have a top loader, and I have learned my lesson! A underloaded washer results in a HUGE waste of water, and time. A overloaded washer results in the diapers on top not getting completely submerged in the wash, thus leaving them stinky because they were not properly cleaned. I have found it is best to have a load that consist of 12-24 diapers, that way they still have room to rub up against each other to get a nice deep clean! Hint: Don't have enough diapers for a full load but MUST do the load? It simple toss in a clean hand towel or two!

4. Organization is key, and saves me from going insane:

Having twins I wash a average of about 50 diapers a week! There have been nights when I have just been too tired to go and get them out of the dryer to stuff and fold them. That can create a viscous cycle of leaving the diapers in the drier or on the clothes line until they are needed, and lets face it that is not convenient. With so many diapers my husband and my self have created a system. In the evening, once the diapers have been dried weather from the clothes line or the drier, we put all the diapers, inserts, doublers, and covers in a basket. While watching t.v or chatting with each other about the day, we stuff all the pockets, fold all the prefolds & snap and prepare all the diapers and covers for the next day. That way when I need a clean diaper it is quick and easy to grab one and know that is ready to go!

5. ALWAYS clean a soiled diaper ASAP:

There is nothing more nasty than forgetting about a soiled diaper for a day or two. Without giving details, I have too learned this the hard way. I can say I love my diaper sprayer. It cleans the diaper quick and easy, right in the toilet. All you do is flush and TA DA! The diaper sprayer quickly became a must have in our home!

Hint: Once a soiled diaper has been cleaned to the best of your ability, soak for about 15 minutes in hot water. Then with a stiff bristled brush ( like a fingernail brush) using only hot water scrub the diaper. This will help prevent stains and get the diaper even cleaner in the wash.  This may sound extreme to some, but...this is what works for us!

6. Line Drying and Sunning Cloth Diapers works wonders:

Recently I was having ummm...well a stinky issue with some of my diapers. A friend suggested line drying them! So I did. Not only did the diapers dry incredibly fast, but the stink was gone, and bonus the sun removed 99.9% of the stains some of them had. Hint: No outside line? Me either. It's easy to make one. The dollar store sells clothes line cord and clothes pins. I made my clothes line on my deck, tying to one post at one end of the deck and the other at...yup you guessed it, the other end of the deck! You can make yours where ever you want by simply tying the cord to a tree, a post or what ever you have, then tie the other end to what ever you can! The you are ready to line dry!!!

7. No matter how careful you are with laundry soap there still might be detergent build up in your dipes:

I opened the dryer, and YUCK a blast of stink! It was horrific. After some research I discovered it was detergent build up. I learned that adding too much soap causes this hideous smell. I started using hardly any detergent. In addition I began to add a 1/2 c. of vinegar, and when needed a extra rinse. This worked wonders. Hint: Can't seem to get rid of that nasty smell not matter what you do? Try this: Soak 12-24 diaper in a HOT wash for at least a hour ( when doing this I do it over night). Once your soak is complete continue you was cycle with no detergent. After cycle is complete, rinse again. The water from my washer empties into a tub sink so I was able to see the water, I was shocked to see after 3 rinses the water was still coming out with suds. When the water no longer had suds. I dried the diapers...NO STINK!!!

8. A durable large wet bag can be your best friend:

When cloth diapering, it can get stinky between washes. My cloth diapering top 'must have' Item is my wet bag!! When we first started cloth diapering, I thought ' we don't need to spend money on a wet bag' Whoa was I wrong. Plastic bags don't cut it. I have amazed us how a horrible stinky room can suddenly be fresh by simply zipping our wet bag!!! Our wet bag it very large and can easily zip with 18 diapers (BumGenius) in it!

9. Prefolds and Covers
(esp. wool) is a fantastic option:

For my husband and my self prefolds are indispensable! Nothing is easier, dries faster, or is as trim. Prefolds. They are a wonderful 'go to' choice. While I'm at home it's easy! Grab a prefold, a snappi, and a pair of wool longies! This is a perfect combination for fall! Hint: Don't have Wool? First of all, I highly recommend looking into wool as a possible option for your family, you be so happy you did! But, if you don't have wool and feel wool just isn't for you. Try this: cover your prefold with a Flip cover or a Bummis Super Whisper wrap or Super Brite...or your favorite cover!

10. Cloth Diapering is Addicting!:

When I first started cloth diapering nearly 5 years ago. I had 5 AIO's, 12 prefolds, and 8 diaper pins. I had just started out and didn't know about ALL the different types, styles, and brands of diapers. In 2008 out when we found out I was pregnant with the twins we started buying our cloth diapers...The addiction had not set in yet! I started by buying 24 indian prefolds, then 24 more prefolds...enter addiction!!! My twins are now 1! I am very proud of their stash!!

We currently have:

Pocket Diapers

Fitteds

AIO's

Covers

Regular Prefolds

Newborn Prefold ( I still use these as boosters)

Fleece doublers

Knit wool covers - longies - shorties - skirties - diaper cover styles

But.....I still want....Bummis Easy fit Prints Or/and the BumGenius Prints! *my heart quickens!

Review - Rockin Green: Funk Rock

Featuring:
I'm not sure why or how it started, but it has attacked our diapers. I can smell my twins coming from down the hall. Yes, I am talking about that dreaded ammonia stink. Our diaper stash hasn't always been like this. They used to smell like...well pee when we would change the twins diapers. UGH, but now, they reek like ammonia, eyes watering ammonia. I have taken care of my diapers, I have followed all the 'cloth diaper washing' guidelines. Yet, it still attacks. I guess ammonia doesn't care if you take care of your diapers. AHHHHHHHH what is a girl to do? I have soaked, striped, no soap, more soap, sun...the list goes on. All these methods work for a little bit, but within about a week ammonia rears its ugly face and smell. So, when the chance to test a brand new product form Rockin' Green, I jumped at the chance! I love my Rockin Green, and now they have something new, ooh this is going to be good!!!

Hello Funk Rock!!

Do you have the funk? Stinkies? Ammonia problems? Diapers that make your eyes water? Have you considered a kryptonite lined diaper pail to contain the smell of your dirty diapers? Did fluffy or fido have an accident on your bunny slippers? Dealing with the dreaded toddler pee? You need funk rock, guaranteed to knock out your ammonia problems in 30 minutes or less (or your pizza’s free!) This 100% natural compound is unlike anything you have tried before. It targets funk at the source and leaves no prisoners. Just 4 tablespoons is enough to de-funk up to 20 diapers in one sitting. A little to your pre-wash to keep the stinkies from coming back. That’s right, this little bag will keep the diaper funk away for over a month!

I was hooked after the first wash! I rocked a 30-45 minute soak. Yep, 4 tbsp did the trick!! They smelled beautifully out of the drier. When bed time came that night, I was ready to hold me breath, at the first diaper change. My husband stood there in anticipation. You could cut the Hope with a knife! I changed my girly twin first then my boy twin. "Smell these!!" I said to my husband. We were so excited! Pee, is all we smelled!! My husband later said "I can't believe how awesome that stuff works" From then on...no watering eyes, no holding our breath, no stink! Now, I'm a Funk Rock believer! Take that Ammonia!! Funk Rock is the perfect addition to our regular Rockin Green Soap!

I addition to our diapers no longer reeking like ammonia, the diaper inserts are brighter, all diapers, inserts and covers are softer...I mean like cuddly soft! Hello added bonus! I had been really fed up with the dingy inserts. I had tried so many times to get me bright again...but sadly nothing worked. Well nothing worked until my new best friend Funk Rock came into my life.

Review - Green Toys

Featuring:

Green Toys: Recycling Truck

My Family is what you would call a 'Recycling Family'. We Recycle everything...cans, milk jugs, batteries, cereal boxes...ect. In addition to that I Recycle old tee shirts into Cloth Diapers, broken picture frames into Jewelry holders, used wrapping paper tubes in to small gift boxes.

When I go shopping I love when I see "100% Recycled" but I have found that that usually pertains to the box, not what is inside the box. Which brings us to this wonderful Green Toys Recycling Truck Giveaway!

What I Received...

This is the cutest little Recycling Truck...and...ALL Green Toy's Products and their packaging are 100% RECYCLED. BPA free, Dishwasher safe, NO lead paint!
From Green Toys:
Sort bottles, cans, and paper or just have a blast! Your eco-conscious little one will learn recycling basics while playing with this super cool recycling truck that has a movable recycling bed and open/shut rear door. The awesome eco-design has no metal axles.

Dimensions: 12”L x 6 ¼”W x 7”H
For ages 1 and up.

What I thought, or Rather what Elias thought....

My boys thought this truck was the coolest. It rolls really fast, which they loved! It has little side compartments where you can recycle little cardboard squares ( you cut out from the box - they have pictures of a bottle, a can, a newspaper) the back of the truck opens to reveal a very large area to put all kinds of 'recycling' in!

When they have it all full they can back the truck up to there 'Recycling Yard' and dump it! 5 yo Elias was giggling the whole time he was playing with it. He was so excited to get his chance to play with it while the twins napped!

When I asked him what he thought he told me " This is the coolest truck I have ever played with" then proceeded to get the little booklet that came with the truck, it shows all the Green Toys they carry, and show all the other Green Toys we NEED! "We need A Tea set for Gabbi, and a Dump Truck for Simon, and of course a Fire Truck for me!!".

I would be lying if I told you that we won't be getting those other items...at some point in the new year we will be making a Green Toys order!

My Closing thoughts...

I think that my most favorite part about Green Toys is that they have gone ALL out! They didn't just use Recycle Plastic for all there toys they made sure it was safe, BPA free, No Lead, and Dishwasher safe, that show that they are a company who truly cares about out Environment! It is just a added bonus that the packaging is recycled too!

Visit Green Toys and fall in love with them like I did the first time I saw them in BOHO magazine!

This Giveaway is now Closed! I hope you enjoyed the Review!

Review - BabyLegs

Featuring:

Two years ago when we found out we were having twins and one was a girl, we started buy skirts and dresses! I was so excited to have all the frilly, cute dresses and skirts my friends always had on their girls! When Gabbi was born she weight 5 pounds, then lost a pound. At Christmas time last year she was way to small for all the dresses and skirts we had bought for that age bracket....I was a little bummed. Last summer she was FINALLY fitting in her 0-6 month skirts:) By the time the twins turned 1 she was able to fit 6-9 months. Now, at 15 months she is a whopping 17lbs 10oz. ;) She is walking and running! The Skirts and Dresses that I bought are now fitting her wonderfully! But...there is a problem...IT IS WINTER! She is always cold, so where do I turn? Tights, Legwarmers, not just any tights & Legwarmers...BabyLegs Tights and Leg warmers!

What I received:

For my review I received a Mixture of BabyLegs; Tights, Leg warmers, and socks!

In these styles:
Jingle Baby Socks
from left to right:
Jelly Bean Leg Warmers
Sweet Heart Leg Warmers

Candy Cane Lane Girls Tights
Sweet Snowflake Footless Tights

What I think of BabyLegs:

BabyLegs tights are adorable, thick and so soft. You can get either footed tights or footless tights! They are perfect under my little girl's dresses and skirts. When she is where Jeans or pants, we are always sure to put a pair of BabyLegs Leg warmers on first. I actually do this with her 2 brothers as well. A few weeks back it was so cold...around -18!

The twins both slept in wool longies with a pair of BabyLegs to ensure they stayed warm. In addition to these wonderful BabyLegs, they also have the coziest socks, with the BEST gripper bottoms ever.

Our kitchen is one of the only rooms that does not have carpet in our home. ALL 3 kids are always slipping and sliding all around. I had gotten so fed up with this that we put a baby gate between out Dining Room and our Kitchen. After getting some BabyLegs Socks, my 6 little feet are staying on the ground, there is no longer slipping and falling down.

My Closing thoughts:
Sweet Heart Leg Warmers

Want to warm up cold legs and arms? BabyLegs have you covered:) You will be hooked the first time to try them! I am always recommending BabyLegs, Giving them as gifts....and buying them up for my kiddos!!

This Giveaway is now Closed! I hope you enjoyed the Review!
